The Christian Endeavour movement in Canada extends all the way back to the 1880's.
Although it is not known when the very first Christian Endeavour Society was formed
in this country, it was certainly not too many years after the movement's founding in Portland, Maine
in 1881.
Christian Endeavour began as a way to train and equip young people to become leaders
within the local church. This original goal has not changed in over 100 years! The movement grew
through the establishment of "societies" formed in local churches for the purposes of training youth.
A brief examination of numerous church histories and writings (which are accessible through the internet)
reveals how the Christian Endeavour movement has made a great impact across Canada and through many
denominations from the late 1800's to the present day. Many churches were founded and countless church
leaders began their early training through these youth "societies".
Canada is one of just over 80 countries where the Christian Endeavour movement can be
found today.
